Notes

Welcome to the 6th album in the Dance Years series. If you missed the previous editions then you can check out the early days of house music in our first CD "1988".

Over the next editions we charted the course of dance music from house through to rave in 1992. So 1993 for me I have to confess is a bit of a blur, too many late nights and parties I fear. Whereas 1992 you could almost define as a year for rave, 1993 sees a more diverse selection of tracks, New York firmly getting a grip with some excellent funky house, in part due to the continued success of Strictly Rhythm.

In 1993, I was holding down a daily show at Kiss FM in London and DJing at clubs in and around London including Jazz in Purley and the House of Windsor which was a fantastic weekly party. I think this was the year that amongst other things we held a Kiss FM dance event on the ice at Alexandra Palace which ended in total mayhem when my friend Tom had his leg sliced open by another skater and turned the ice rink from crisp white into an eerie burgundy! Luckily he was stitched up and made a full recovery, although come to think of it he does walk a bit funny!

1993 saw a very young and boyish Erick Morillo come to the UK's attention with his hit 'Reel 2 Real - I Like to Move It'. The mighty 'Robin S - Show Me Love' took the clubbing world by storm and is still a huge anthem today - happy days!

If you enjoyed this CD, look out for 94 - 97.
Cheers,
D.
Discussion about Various - Dave Pearce: The Dance Years: 1993
Yggdi
Nice mix & quality mastering .. BUT very obviously 93 onwards (as Hardcore/Rave/Techno etc had sped up) on this one they've opted for an odd variety of House / Underground-ish & Commercial Club / Radio tune that Dave (& others on Kiss) typically played on shows at the time...but personally not positive all these are actual 1993 releases & might sum up his particular residencies / radio playlists but not the scene that year unfortunately...even for House etc.
