Discussion about Various - Pulse 8 ...The Next Millennium
Mitars Riders
Thank God for diversity. Or DJ Alex for compiling this set! With their length I like double CD compilations to offer a broad perspective of talented contemporary acts and DJ Alex is doing just that showcasing some nice 2000 acts. CD1 offers psychedelic trance (Koxbox, Etnica), tech-trance (The Delta, Spirallianz) and early progressive in a variety of shapes. Intact Instinct opens with Orchestral Offender. A long, held back journey bearing reminiscences to then Iboga. Voodoo People I don’t know what to call but it certainly is insisting. Son Kite comes like a lead & gasoline cock-tail with killer production. With Koxbox the psychedelic part starts. Truth be told Six Cells is not one of my favourites from the Danish psy pioneers but KB is always good for a challenge. Next up is The Delta with Delta Skelter. Talk about production skills ... Spirallianz has the follow up duty and does so by opening the basement door and taking us one step closer to Lucifer. Holy Christ, what was that? XV Kilist is cheerier (well, duh) but doesn’t grab me as much. Likewise Etnica is challenging. And Tarsis closes CD1 dramatically with the promisingly titled Millennium. A respectable CD1 if not overwhelming. CD2 opens with The Quest which is ... well, that and an invitation to dance. Jupiter 8000 borders the planetary system with Saturn and offers another dance floor friendly tune I think will go down well with the ladies. Positively vibed with intersections it offers something for grace & gaze. Shake that booty, Mama! In the interplanetary spirit Sun Project takes us to Luna. Not bad but I like Noma even more. Besides, from Noma and on the remainder has a great flow of proggy and minimal. I love challenging, dark trance at the right hour but most of the time I am in the mood for head on dancing without too much thinking and Noma, P. Rex, Tristan and Human Blue offers this trip. Hell, even Atmos joins us for the ride and Element closes in style with one of the strongest tracks here. My favourite part of the ride. So, there you have it. Ups and downs P8 The Next Millennium offers a broad selection of trance acts anno 2000. For the most part it will appeal to the tech trance and/or progressive trance follower and validate a safe purchase. There are no bad tracks per se and I found particularly CD2 has a smooth flow. On the other hand, if you already have double CD compilations sticking out your ears this probably won’t change your life.
